1 December 2014
‘Go Green this Christmas’ is the theme of one of the new stalls at this year’s Otley Victorian Fayre on Sunday December 7.
The ‘Go Green’ stall is a joint venture by the Otley & Yeadon Green Party and
Otley-based Practically Green, a local environmental group.
The stall will be providing practical information on how people can help themselves and their environment at the same time, as well as environmentally friendly and ‘green’ seasonal gifts on sale. There will be tips on everything from energy saving to shopping, growing your own food and exchanging ideas and skills, plus information on how to get involved locally and the Green Party.
Owen Brear, local council candidate for the Green Party which has doubled its membership in Yorkshire since May, says: “We think the green message of doing practical things to save our environment for future generations can be relevant at this time of year. Christmas can be ‘green’; don’t forget that the original Santa Claus was dressed in green, not red. At the same time, Green Party policies on a wide range of issues such as the NHS, the living wage, bus services and housing are attracting growing support.”
Rob Godfrey, founder of Practically Green said: “We offer practical ways of protecting the environment and saving money at the same time. It’s win-win if you go green this Christmas.”
Further information on both groups is available at the stall and on http://otley.greenparty.org.uk and http://www.practically-green-otley.co.uk/
